Managing Medical Pharmacy: Building thought leadership and brand awareness at the cusp of a little-known health care trend.

Clients in the News: April 2010

In the midst of health care reform debates, RMPR helps a small Minnesota health care technology firm take its rightful place as national thought leader in the emerging medical pharmacy management industry.

Novologix provides sophisticated tools to manage pharmaceutical products and procedures covered under the medical benefit. It’s a fast-rising health care cost driver (10-15 percent annually) that traditionally has not been tracked by states, employers and health plans, unlike the electronic systems used by pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs). Novologix’s tools fix the payment discrepancies, saving its customers between 6-10 percent annually on its medical pharmacy spend.

The challenge: Few knew that the payment discrepancies exist and fewer still knew that Novologix provides the market’s first external solution.

Our public relations and creative team worked with Novologix to turn its groundbreaking experts symposium into a broader, more permanent medium — a formal white paper outlining the issue and highlighting inputs/support from chief medical officers and pharmacy directors from across the country. It has been used in numerous forums, including follow up expert panels, speaking opportunities, fulfillment piece for sales efforts, media relations outreach, and more.

In Q1, a media relations campaign targeted industry publications with the timely hook that in the next two years the number of biotech drugs approved for market use will explode and eventually will overtake pharmacy spending.

The release has led to dozens of media hits in key publications for Novologix’s market, including trade publications and Web sites for pharmacy leaders, health plan decision makers, and investors. With a noteworthy partnership on the horizon with a large publicly traded health insurer, the stage is set for more mainstream business and health care attention as well.
